Complete your Bachelor's degree in Nursing and advance your career

For those who have obtained their Registered Nurse (RN) degrees through diploma or Associate’s Degree programs who are interested in getting their Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees, there are several programs in the state of Kansas. The most prominent ones are the University of Kansas, Newman University, and the University of St. Mary. All three of these programs are Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited. Additional CCNE approved RN-BSN programs in the state of Kansas are listed below.

Both the University of Kansas and St. Mary offer online programs. These online programs give students the flexibility to attend school full-time or part-time. Full-time students can complete their programs in as little as three semesters while part-time students may complete their programs in anywhere from two to five years. Newman University has a program that is intended to train students to become nurse generalists. Their students will have clinical opportunities in a number of settings including clinics, homes, physician offices, workplaces, hospitals, health departments, and nursing homes.

Typically RN to BSN programs in Kansas consist of approximately 124 credit hours total, approximately half of which are general requirements that can be met at any accredited community or four-year state college. The remaining credit hours are all nursing courses. Generally the required courses must be completed before students can start completing nursing courses. The nursing courses may contain the following subject areas: research, health care finance, human genetics, leadership, research, pathology, health systems, community, professional engagement, and public health.

Many RN nurses are interested in obtaining their BSNs so that they can move through the salary ranks more quickly, obtain management-level nursing positions, and/or obtain other higher-level nursing positions that justify increased salary. Management level positions that BSN nurses can obtain include managing health care and ambulatory services as well as management positions in other companies and organizations besides hospitals and clinics such as pharmaceutical manufacturers and insurance companies. Additionally, BSN nurses can pursue positions in consultation, researching, and teaching.
