Complete your Bachelor's degree in Nursing and advance your career

RN to BSN academic programs allow registered nurses to earn their bachelor’s degree. RN stands for Registered Nurse and BSN stands for Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Registered Nurses who met the nursing pre-licensure education requirement with an Associate’s degree or diploma certificate are the prime candidates to enroll in an RN to BSN program. There are several advantages for nurses who successfully complete their BSN degree.

RNs with their Bachelor’s degree may receive higher salaries than nurses who hold lesser educational qualifications. Secondly, a BSN allows one to progress from an entry-level nursing job into higher level positions. For example, one may want to move into a more specialized and advanced nursing position such as a nurse anesthetist or a nurse practitioner. In order to be eligible to enter any of the advanced nursing programs, the individual must first complete their Bachelor’s degree. Another good reason to complete a BSN program is to refresh your nursing skills and become exposed to new procedures and/or instrumentation.

There are three primary types of RN to BSN nursing degree programs. The first choice is the full-time RN to BSN program. There are a number of universities in Missouri that offer both day and evening programs. Typically a full-time RN to BSN program takes about 12-18 months, or three full semesters to complete. A second choice is to complete your classes online through an RN-BSN distance learning program. These are ideal for those who live further away from schools offering the curriculum. A third choice is to attend classes either directly on campus or at an outreach site. Outreach sites are becoming more popular with many universities.

The highest concentration of brick and mortar RN to BSN programs are located in Kansas City and St. Louis. In addition to the two major Missouri metro areas there are RN to BSN programs available at most University of Missouri campuses including Columbia, Kansas City and Saint Louis, as well as Southeast Missouri State University and Truman University. There are also a number of smaller schools throughout the state that feature fully accredited RN to BSN programs. There are approximately nineteen accredited RN to BSN programs in Missouri.

Compared to other fields of study, there are a large number of programs available for the RN to BSN transition, and interested students should be able to find a suitable program that fits their schedule.
